Pain Management
OSTEOPATHIC MANIPULATION
Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment, or OMT, is a modality consisting of hands-on techniques used by osteopathically trained physicians to diagnose, treat, and prevent injury. It is involved with moving muscles, joints, and soft tissue in such ways as to open and mobilize regions of prior restriction and pain. This training in musculoskeletal injury repair helps to reverse newly injured regions, as well as chronic injuries of muscles, nerves and bones. It allows for the practitioner to have a deep understanding of how the body’s systems are interconnected. It also allows the practitioner to evaluate, identify, and treat regions of the body that have been injured in the past, which, for all practical purposes have “gone away,” but still restricting full function at other regions of the body.
Osteopathic manipulative techniques can help:
- Treat structural and tissue abnormalities
- Relieve joint restriction and misalignment
- Restore muscle and tissue balance
- Promote blood and lymphatic flow through the body
Common conditions which osteopathic manipulation can address are:
- Headaches
- Neck and Shoulder Pain
- Arm, hand and wrist pain
- Upper, Mid and Low back pain
- Hip and Leg pain
- Rib and Abdominal Wall Pain

Dr. Srutwa
Premier MD+ Neuromuscular Medicine + Medical Acupuncture
“Medical Acupuncture is a low cost, elegant way of managing pain immediately. It doesn’t rely on expensive technology. Medical Acupuncture is like standing at a circuit breaker and shutting off pain one circuit at a time”
Background
Dr. Srutwa received his B.S. in Psychology from Loyola University in Chicago. His medical school training was completed at the American University of the Caribbean. After medical school, Dr. Srutwa served three years overseas with the United States Army Medical Corps. Upon his return stateside, he began his post-graduate training at Michigan State University, learning Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. After completing his training, he taught manipulative medicine for several years.
Dr. Srutwa studied Medical Acupuncture for Physicians at UCLA, completed his training in 1996 and continues to take additional acupuncture training on a regular basis. He has practiced in West Michigan since 1996. Dr. Srutwa joined Premier MD+ in May of 2019 to provide patients with integrative pain management with an emphasis on his specialty, Medical Acupuncture.
Dr. Srutwa brings to his patients the combined knowledge of Allopathic (M.D.), Osteopathic (D.O.), and Eastern Modalities in medicine. He believes in the reduction of medications and invasive procedures to help his patients get back to their lives without the pain. After an initial assessment, Dr. Srutwa will determine the appropriate approach for treatment which may include modalities like medical acupuncture, trigger point injections, or osteopathic manipulation to relieve pain and improve the body’s function. His goal is to improve the balance of your life.

Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT)
Physician with board-certification in Family Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulation.
Education: I grew up in mid-Michigan in a town outside of Lansing (Perry) where I attended K-12. After high school I attended Michigan State University for my undergraduate education, earning a BS in Nutritional Science in the Honor’s College. After which I then attended Michigan State College of Osteopathic Medicine, graduating in May 2019.
Internship and residency: Completed at Mercy Health Hospital, Fruitport Family Medicine Residency with graduation in 2022. Upon graduation I was board-certified in Osteopathic Manipulation and in Family Medicine.
Dreams: From early on in my career I have had a strong desire to practice medicine in a way that is truly patient-centered. My desire and habit is to establish a relationship of mutual trust with my patients and to treat my patients with dignity and with active listening in a setting that makes my patients feel comfortable telling me about their life. I believe that we can partner together to improve the health and wellbeing of my patients.
Interests: I love being able to treat the full range of ages and conditions that is afforded in Family Medicine. Taking care of multiple members of the same family throughout the many life stages is a veritable privilege of what I get to do for a living.
In addition to Family Medicine, I enjoy getting to embrace the tenants of Osteopathic medicine (see other blog post regarding osteopathic tenants). This includes, but is not limited to, my use of Osteopathic Manipulation in the treatment of a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions.
I am specifically interested in preventative medicine with a focus on educating patients so that they can make wise and informed decisions about their own health in keeping with their goals and values. As a family physician, I also realize the significant role that nutrition plays in the health and well being of my patients and I make effort to integrate nutritional needs into my patients overall health plan of care.
Personal Life: While I cherish my time interacting with my patients, I am thankful to enjoy a full and rewarding life outside of the office. I have been married to Josiah for almost a decade and we have two delightful young children. Having the young children means that at this stage in my life my reading material includes articles from Journal of the American Medical Association, as well as children books such as Fox in Sox, The Pokey Little Puppy, and The Pout Pout Fish.
